My 80 L48 has developed an intermittent fuel problem. Running perfectly fine and now for the third time in a month the fuel supply just stops, no fuel flow at carb, first time I found a vacuum line to the breather off, attached same and after a few minutes and numerous attempts the car started. I assumed it was the vacuum line, second time same thing running perfect and the next thing I'm coasting to a stop again. Checked to see if fuel was making to the carb and once again, dry. After several minutes and multiple attempts we're back in business and once again today, the same scenario. I doubt it's the fuel pump, the fuel filter is fresh, the fuel is stabile, the car is frequently driven in good weather, short distances, I'm at a loss! If someone could shed some light on this issue I would really appreciate it.

Many years ago, I had a similar problem. Turned out the fuel tank's liner had disintegrated and was getting caught up around the sock on the intake line in the tank when I had about 1/8 of a tank of gas left.

Now... before I'd rush out and buy a tank- I'd have someone verify that's the problem because it is entirely within the realm of possibility that it is.

Hope that helps- best of luck! There's very little more maddening than a car that runs ok and then dies.:W

Thanks Kane, sounds like a plausible suspect but the prospect of dropping the tank...............

1st Welcome to CAC!!!!
It might be possible that you could look into the tank with a flash lite
to see it has started to disintegrate.
