what should i use between the gaskets and the engine\plate.....its after market mechanical...I have super blue 2 rtv , but i want to be sure i have the right thing for heat and oil...thanks....chas

:D

If I were doing this on my car I would assemble with JUST THE GASKETS!!!!!! .IF everything is clean & flat it wont leak. The General has been doing it like this for 50 yrs, Little gobs of RTV can cause MEGA-PROBLEMS.:w

Just glue the gasket to the pump and plate with any hard setting type so it wont move on you. I agree with "drags 1998", NO RTV.

pump gasket!

We use 3 M weather stripping cement for most gaskets when replacing parts. Part # 08011 and 08001 Comes in yellow or black. Works well on valve covers, timing hardware, waterpumps, ect. Use very spareingly {if there is such a word} ;) Just glue the gasket to the part your replacing and let it set up hard in about 10 minutes. Caution, do not use on both sides or you will never get it apart. Some wheel bearing or similar grease on the the other side will normally soften the gasket and prevent leakage and helps in easy removal such as valve cover gaskets. RTV is a substitute for gaskets but remains soft and a over-abundance can wind up in a oil pump screen and therefore we do not use very much of that product. Our experience is in all engines from racing to my Vettes http://www.nitroalley.net and works equally as well on both types.:D
