Fuel Pump Issue

OK guys, I am writing so nobody else has the same problem, after all, that is what this forum is for. I can handle a little hate mail but don't talk about my mother. I am just kidding with all this, I just wanted to put everybody in the mood. A light bulb went off in my head while as was riding to work in my beater (Monday, Jan.5). I passed a gas station and noticed Premium gas is going up in price, I said to my self, "Self, you should fuel up the Vette before gas tops $3.00 again". Boom, maybe I ran out of gas and my gage was stuck. After all, the first thing I did was check my dash and I had 3/4 of a tank so I ruled that out right away. When I got home from work Monday (I should have left early), I grabbed the gas can from the shed and dumped in about 2 gallons of gas. Before I put the gas in I checked my fuel pressure (No pressure) just in case the thing had reset and what I was about to do didn't actually fix it. So I dumped in the 2 gallons of gas, turned the key a couple of times and boom, I had 40 pounds of pressure. I didn't fire it up, I ran up to the gas station and got another 2 gallons, dumped it in and she fired right up. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY! I drove down to the gas station and filled it up. She took 16 gallons. Now I need to keep an eye on my gauge to see if had been sticking from sitting so long from doing all the mods I have listed on my profile. I tried to stop the shipment of my fuel pump and filter from Ecklers but it had already shipped but it didn't bother me because my baby was running. I went back to the start of my thread to see if anybody had said to make sure I had gas but nobody did, so it is not my fault I didn't check for gas. I wouldn't know how to check it anyway being afraid of sticking something in the tank and rupturing the bladder. So the bottom line is check the EXTREME obvious. I like to thank everybody for their input. This is a great forum.

Lee, thanks for the feedback:beer Like you say, checking the extreme obvious is always important. Hopefully, we all have learned from this one:upthumbs:w

Hey, congratulations and thanks heaps for the feedback, pm's and all.

Worthwhile replacement given age of car.
When you have the pump out you can check the gauge sending unit at same time.
Maybe the wiper arm is frozen in one place as you are getting a reading ( wiring must be alright ) but not the correct one

You can use a digital volt meter to check for the resistance at the fuel level sender and adjust the sending unit accordingly. There may be a Tech Tip or Sticky here that shows the readings you should get from "empty" to "full". If not, I believe it's on Forums. CorvetteForum.com or just google it.

Making any adjustment is easy. I did it on my 86's fuel lever sender and it was a piece of cake and made the dash reading much more accurate.
