fuel regulator

Does anyone know if the fuel pressure regulator diaphram is different on an 85 then one on an 86 to 91. I'm searching online, some dealers show a different on and others list the same part. I can save about 25 dollars if I can use the one that shows its the same.:bash

85-91 (L98) 34-39 Lb

92-96 (LT1 and 4's) 41-47 Lb

Just put in a diaphram for an 86, I'm getting 20 psi with the ignition on. Before with the old one only 8 or 9. Does this sound like a good psi reading without the car running? I Can't start it yet cause I sent the valve covers out for some clean up and powder coat.

Sounds like a weak fuel pump to me!

put a new one of those on few days ago.

Tried reading the fuel pressure again, got 30 psi, must of had some air in the line who knows
I'm hoping when its back together and running I get 30+ psi.

Why did you replace it? Did you do static and dynamic pressure tests?

I replaced it because when I checked the Fuel pressure I was only getting 8 psi static and 18 dynamic. Tried following some generic procedures, and replaced the filter, pump, and lastly the regulator. All without any change in psi until the regulator. I was lead to change the regulator after I closed off the return line and read 35 plus psi. I'm still waiting for the valve covers from the paint shop so I can run it. I will try to find your post for some additional help. thanks

Wow - that's too bad. I guess put the old pump back in since it works, and sell the new one on eBay, unless the store will take it back...

Rule for life: Don't let people (including mechanics) 'lead' you. Ask questions, and tell them that you're from Missouri. That's the 'Show Me' state. You'll save $. And you'll expose a lot of stuff too, like

In Washington, they don't like to answer questions, cause there's a lot of 'stuff'

Fuel pressure tests are VERY important, and there's several things that need to be done very explicitly.

Hopefully, the other member here will do a full test series, and get them posted on YouTube. That could definitely be a $ generator uh huh...
