fuel smell

There is a strong odor of gas on the start up and after parking in our "93". On start up there is a bit of white exaust particulary on the passenger side, but both sides have a strong gas odor....the car has close to 200,000 miles but runs strong. We just replaced the fuel pump a month ago.....any ideas

There was a thread here not to long ago about this same thing. I believe I remember something about the gasket in the filler , guage area on the tank.
do a search on fuel smell . also search gas odor, fuel odor ,gasoline odor

White smoke out the exhaust, is not a good thing. Mainly white smoke means coolant in the combustion chamber. Perhaps a leaky head gasket or something.

I forgot to add that after the initial start there is difficulty restarting but will start in a few minutes
