Fuse for Horn ???

Posted this question on another forum and have not found anyone with an answer. So lets see how smart the Action Center Forum is.

In a 77 Vette, which fuse is for the horn. I don't see it listed on my owners manual or on the block.

The horn circuit isn't fused - it's fed directly from the power junction bus in the horn relay.

Hard to believe that the circuit is not protected from shorts somehow with a fuse??

The main power feed from the starter solenoid to the horn relay junction bus has a fusible link at the starter, and there are others between the horn relay and the alternator, but the horn circuit itself (from the horn relay to the horns) isn't protected; if a horn wire dead shorts to ground, it just fries the green wire between the horn and the horn relay.

That's pretty much what I thought. I wasn't counting the fusible link on the main power feed but that only stands to reason. How often would a horn dead-short? Isn't it more likely to go open?

Hmmm!?? I'm trying to troubleshoot the samething on my 79 (Somebody else chopped out the horn wires from the harness, direct wired one horn and drilled a big black button onto the console). I'm trying to trace the circuit but I loose it at the fuse block. The schematic I have shows it fused with the Hazard lights at the fuse block. Is that not correct?

There's no power on the horn circuit inside the car - all the horn button does is ground the coil in the horn relay (in the engine compartment), and when the relay energizes, its contacts connect 12V battery power directly to the horns, and the horns are grounded by their attachment.

I only have circuit diagrams up to '72, but that's been the wiring standard for GM horn circuits for decades.
