Garage Door Modification

Took some pictures today now that the painter has all his scaffolding out of the garage. After doing all the tile and granite work, it was apparent that the garage door and tracks were ruining the look of the room. With some afterthought and a good garage door installer, we took the door and tracks out of the room completely. The door now disappears into a narrow pocket in the ceiling yet is still fully accessible through a service door. (Note - there's still a few more lights to install and some tilework to be done)

Looks nice!

I like how you customized the door tracks!

I bet the noise level will be up there if you opened the pipes on the Vette and fired it up.

The neutral color scheme is to allow the cars and cabinetry to be the focal point in the room (without color clashes). Black and white is classic although I didn't want to get into the checkered flag look which is very overdone. The faux painted ceiling ties the colors of the floors, walls and trim together.

Reverberation is an issue and there will be a few sound panels installed to absorb some of the excess noise.

This is one of 3 garage displays....tiled garages are popular in Europe and I've done car wash bays with floor to ceiling tile.

I think the room will look a little better once the F40 or Mini Cooper are brought into the picture. A Z06 would look great too! SD

PS - Here's another pic that shows the space is intended for use as a workshop/garage.

Give me some history here, Are you a designer? Cool garage And I can only imagine the cost.Whats up with this garage is it to display cars? just to park them? or to work on them.

With The tile work I can see it seems you could have purchased a nice C3 for the cost of the tile

please explain it to me

Ps I will post a picture of my garage when I get home.Youll be SHOCKED

I am in rockland county we are practily neighbors

I design and consult on garages and workshops for car collectors (and a few dealers...did some work at Prestige Porsche up in your neck of the woods...see http://www.ultimategarage.com/prestige.html for some pics). When I started doing this back in 1994 (after 20 years at IBM), I had no competition. Now there are plenty of so-called garage specialists....Awesome Garage, Logical Garage, Dream Garage, and a few other Ultimate Garages. I'm trying to differentiate myself from my competitors with this project (this is 1 of 3 garage displays).

Here's the before pic of this garage before the makeover (obviously taken in better lighting with a wider lense)

Here's one taken today with a digital camera in uneven lighting from a low angle (countertops are 41" above the floor) and before any artwork is hung on the walls.
