After storing my 86 Vette for the winter, it is in my garage now and I have noticed a strong Gas smell around it. After you drive it and park it for a few hrs., when you get back in the car, you can smell the gas fumes. I can't locate the area specifically. Any ideas on wher it might be coming from ? I have had the car all last year and never noticed it till now. Thanks, John

My best guess would be to check if the drain on the fuel filler boot is plugged. If you (God forbid) overfilled or spashed a little gas onto the boot and it didn't drain, it would torment you until it is completely dissipated.

My Second best guess, is to look for small leaks in the rubber hoses at the top of the fuel tank, or on the other end of the fuel delivery system. Maybe the connections at the fuel filter aren't tightened or sealed properly.

You might also have to chase down the fuel pipes... That's if the car is running right and not showeing any codes.

On the other side, if you have any misses, or is it running rich? then That is another avenue to investigate.

I checked the Fuel overfill line and it is clear. I am not sure how to get to the hoses at the top of the fuel tank. There are no signs of leakage anywhere and the gas smell is strongest inside the car. The car is running good and the smell seems to only be noticed after the car has been sitting not running for a while. You can smell it every morning in the garage when you go out to it.

Check the fuel filter - both ends to see if fuel is leaking there.

Did you have any work done to the car before storing it?

Check the evap loss can at the front left side.

Black round thing see if hoses hooked up .

Remove can and see how heavy it is .

The can could need to be replaced.

Good possibility here.

As for the hoses on top of the tank, remove the hinged fuel filler lid, wiggle the neoprene splash guard out and there's all the hoses!

Found the problem

After looking everywhere for the Gas Fumes, I found gas leaking from the back end of the right Injector Rail where a steel tube line is threaded into it. The nut is tight but you can see it leaking from there it screws into the fitting that goes into the Rail. This steel tube is routed from this Rail to the right side of the Manifold. I don't see this Tube anywhere in my Chiltons Manual. Anyway, thanks for the input and hopefully it is only an 'o' ring to fix it.
