gas mileage

LanceB

I just remembered a problem that caused my gas mileage to go way down years ago. There is a small vent hole in the top of the fuel pump. I had a leaky pump diaphram which caused a little gas to be squirted out of that vent hole. It didn't puddle anyplace but my gas mileage dropped terribly.

When I was looking under the hood and reving the engine, I noticed a small spray coming out of the hole. I think when I was driving down the hiway, the gas evaporated so quickly that I didn't see it. I can't explain, (or remember) why I didn't smell the gas. Heck, maybe I did and that's why I was looking under the hood. It was back in 66 or 67!!

when I was driving my 76 everyday I would fill up every 110 miles or so 2 to three times a week it would usually take 11-12 gallons roughly 9-10 mpg. My 97 goes 320-330 between fills and takes 14+ gallons once a week.
The money I save on gas helps with the car payments;LOL

I just had my Holley 4160 rebuilt. I had to adjust everything on it afterward. You might check your mixture to see if it might be to rich. Check your timing too. Just my two cents :w
