When I changed the plugs on my car, there was gasoline on the threads of two plugs. The plugs were the middle two on the driver's side. I thought at first it might be coolant but a quick sniff test confirmed gasoline. Could this be a sign of a problem? The car had not been started in about 20 hours.

Leaky fuel injectors. Perform a fuel pressure test, and see if the fuel pressure bleeds off. This wont tell you which one is leaky, but it will confirm if you have leaky injectors.

Plenty of procedures on how to do this. Easy way, connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail. Turn the key to on, the pressure should build. Turn the key back off. Monitor the pressure that the gauge reads, and time it. Then report back.

On the THREADS???

No
No need to test for leaks - you got 'em. Get a resistance reading for all 8 injectors. Hopefully you got just 2 bad ones... Test them cold, and hot. Write down and post up results.

No
I don't htink there's any need to test t.

I agree with Schrade!

I'd move quickly & test your injectors because you don't want them to get worse before you replace them if they are bad. I've blown out a set of rings before when a fuel injector went out... it took a $300 problem (a set of injectors) and turned it into a rebuild. :ugh

Yup - I gave bad advice - DO NOT test hot. I think you should NOT fire this motor.

Hydro-lock in a cylinder will fold a connecting rod in half so tight that Bob couldn't straighten it out with a case of Enzyte NOPE

Ok. I tested the injectors. From driver's side front to passenger side rear...

17.8, 8.7, 17.1, 5.4, 8.5, 5.3, 17.5, 6.4

Think this could be the main source of my surging/idle problem?? :)

I need advice on where to get replacements and which ones to go with. I assume this is not a difficult swap. Just a little time consuming. I will also replace the EGR at the same time. Any other parts I should replace while I have the plenum and fuel rails off?

See Jon Banner FIC Injectors for replacements.

Be careful pulling injector retainer clips. If pulled off the wrong way, they can go ballistic when they snap off, and they usually land next to Rod Serling in the you-know-where:

Tie on some string, or a bagtie. Push carefully with your thumb the middle of the 'bow' in the clip, where my tie is. Then pull carefully outward in the second pic.

Before pulling injectors, grab a drinking straw and blow away the seaweed and motor jam, so it doesn't fall into the injector port. Tartar control isn't necessary in the cylinders NOPE!

Thanks. I plan to get a set from him soon. It looks like the Bosch IIIs are the way to go. Any reason why I would not want the remans?

Fuel Injector Connection

Jon Banner , He will set you up with a set of injectors for about $169 .
I ordered a set from him, my vette has never run so good.
No reason not to get the remanufactured, theirs are near new.
Both Sr and Jr know their injectors, and you can't get better service anywhere.
