Gas smell and drip from drivers side under fuel port?

2004 Coupe w/auto transmission


I noticed a strong fuel smell that seems to be coming from around the wheelwell, drivers side, below the fuel port?

I can see a fuel leak (small drips), but it's very small.....only a few drips on the ground after shut-off.....

Is this possibly the fuel filter leaking? Or a hose maybe?

I searched the forum prior to posting, and didn't find anything specific....

HI there,
You have a few connections but NO fuel filter.
That being said, you should check the entire area while the vehicle is on a lift.

No fuel filter?...I honestly thought that's where the filter was located on the C5?...

Actually, I now realize that the 04's have the filter in the tank (fuel pump) right?.....

Although, the link below goes to the RockAuto Parts Catalog that shows an 04 fuel filter?....man, I'm confused!

I actually over-filled the tank about 2 fill-ups ago......do you think it might be caught somewhere and slowly dripping out?....

Although, I think there's more fuel dripping out than what originally overflowed?

HI there,
Thats for the earlier fuel system.
The chance that your overfilling it created the condition is very low.

You should check the filler pipe and the tank connections for loose clamps.

Were you able to find anything on this today? Just a curious bystander wanting to know just in case.

After looking under the suspect area, I was unable to determine the source of the leak.....this is really frustrating! I hoped I'd see a stain or small crack in a hose or fitting....but didn't....
