Well to start my vette has been hanging with bubba ,and here is one item he has visited,

69/70 vette the gas tank was in the car with treaded hooks to hold the rear part of the straps to the frame, i removed the tank to paint it any while trying to install it back i wanted to do it right but it seems my straps are not long enough , i think the tank is an anderson with the logo.

Is ther different size straps? any pics

Thanks

Nope not different size straps ,just a pita.I swear I think they shrink when they are removed. Its kinda like a road map ,you can never get it back the way it was.I usually have to get a hold of them with something on the backside of the tank and keep pulling and working it until it gets close.Trust me new ones are even worse.

Paintdaddy is right about new ones. At least the originals already have the bends from time. Also, it's a good idea to replace the strap pads. That makes the fit even tighter but the alternative is not good. When the owner before me replaced the tank on my old 71 he left the strap pads off and it eventually rubbed a pinhole in the tank which leaked directly onto the mufflers:eek.

To help give myself a third hand I put a length of 2x6 on a hydraulic jack and "pushed" the tank in a little tighter. This gave me both hands to work in back into position horizontally.

Good luck!
