any set of gears (3.73) will fit in a vette (dana 36) right? i dont have to go to a corvette performance catalog. could i buy 3.73's from jegs or summit? or do i have to go to ecklers, mid america, etc?

As long as its for a D36, no problem.

Although i do think there is a difference between the 2 and 3 series carriers in the 36.

thanx. jegs and summit have 3.75's for the same price. what is the difference between the 2 and 3 series carrier? how will i know which one i have?

If you have 3.07 now, you have 3 series.
If you have 2.59/2,73 now, you have 2 series.

I'm not sure of the differences, just going by what others with D36 LT1s have said.

gotcha. i do have the G92 3.07's. hopefully by the end of the summer they'll be installed.

The D36 diff is the same from everything I learned going through this. Whether you started with 2.59 or 3.07. Same carrier. They just use what they call "thick gears" to get the 3.54 and 3.73 ring and pinion to line up right.
The 2-series and 3-series has to do with the VSS (speed sensor) which is in the side of the tranny. You started with a 3.07 so that just saved you about $50 not having to replace the VSS. I started with 2.59 and had to get the new one. My92 also required getting 2 new speedo gears, about $20 or so. I beleive starting in 94 you can just have the computer reprogrammed instead of needing the speedo gears. But I'm not positive on that part.

thanx for the added info. your right about 94 being the first year for computer controlled shifts. i bought a hypertech programmer off ebay knowing gears were in my future. turning the fans on early is a added bonus. tell me about the first time you got on it with the new gears in. the gears are about $300 bucks. im worried about the labor charge. about how many hours are we looking at?
