Hello every one!! Been thinking of changing my rear gears to 4:10 I have a
1988 coupe L-98,4+3 she is stock but run"s very well !!! what do you guy's
think would be an all around gear, and would this realy afect my top end that
much! normal crusing speed for me on the highway is 80 mph

I have 4.10s on my LT1. It does affect top end, and I need to get into the overdrive 5th quick. I elected for 4.10 because it enabled me to go to 6th at about 60mph, and also because the LT1 gets its power at higher rpms. For an L98, you might consider 3.91. I find that I have to be very careful putting the hammer down in 1st (or for that matter 2nd), because the redline comes up very quick and street tires will really start spinning. Just something to consider. Perhaps other L98 owners will chime in.

My opinon is you wouldn't be very happy with 4:10's on a car where you want to cruise at 80 mph. Your motor would really be winding out. A 3:70 would be better or I think an even better choice for a car that sees lots of highway cruising is a 3:30.

Remember, your L98 really falls off when you get to 4500 rpm. You want a gear that will keep you in your powerband and I think a 4:10 gear would get you past your powerband too quickly.

Again, that's just my opinon.
