Getting the exhaust fixed

Well, I've owned the vette for 3 weeks now. The guy I bought the vette from *a 1984* put 100% straight pipes on her. So with that sending the O2 system through a wild loop and causing my car to stall after having a heavy foot *or regular corvette driving* I have decided that enough is enough. I'm spending an arm and a toe to get a GM OEM cat put on the vette. Should I worry about the muffler, or just leave it straight after that? I'm not worried about sound, I'm worried about keeping that engine in good shape.

I would think straight pipes with cats would be good for the engine (better than the stock exhaust) because it allows it to work more efficiently and breath easier. That would put less stress on parts, and keep engine temps down just a tad.

Plus, you definately need the cats and O2 sensors to keep the engine healthy. It was made with electronics so use it. Good thing you want to put cats back on!

Do you have headers? Since you are taking everything apart anyway, maybe you should consider headers. Just a thought!

How about just adding a simple heated O2 sensor
