What is the best way to remove scratches in auto glass? Has anyone used these polishing drill attachment kits with any success? Are there any glass shops or detailers that fix scratches? I call my local shop and they said they only replace the glass. That seems drastic for surface scratches.

You might try to find a local detailer who has some experience. The thing with polishing glass is that it's like polishing paint. To remove a scratch, you have to remove the glass down to that depth. In a windshield, this can lead to distortion. So you have to be careful. With a direct drive pad like a drill or rotary buffer and the right material, you can remove a lot of glass. By hand or with an orbital buffer, you can't really. That may be the way to start just to see if you can fix it without getting drastic.

I've also heard heat from a rotary or drill can build up and shatter the glass, so heat is something to be aware of, I guess.

Do you have the GM service manuals for your car? Mine have detailed instructions on how GM recommends polishing glass. That might be something worth reading first. :)

Thanks for the advice. I'll look at the GM service manual.

Extreme heat + glass = bad news. Leave it to a professional. Just a little advice.
