Hi guys, just a general question (forgive the pun) on General Motors from across the pond?

I'm buying an '86 Chevy Caprice classic station wagon tomorrow but Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile all built much the same car.

.....in general what sort of people did each appeal to when bought new...how were GM selling the same sort of product to different customers...example:- Chevy Caprice, Old's Custom Cruiser, Electra etc?

I'm thinking Chevy for hourly paid, Old's are medical (Quincy!) and professional sorts, Buick thoughtful engineeers types Pontiac's for sporty types

cheers for the info guys

Sounds to me like you've already nailed it. :D

I've seen and driven a lot of them, and to me it was just a matter of trim, the chevy and pontiac was basic big wagons, the olds and buick were higher degree and amount of chrome and fancy trim. The running gear were all the same save for the interior and radio types.
