Forty Five Corvettes Cited Among Approximately 6,000 Affected Vehicles

Earlier this afternoon, GM issued Service Update #N202319660 Valve Spring Failure citing nearly 6,000 vehicles affected including the 2020 Corvette.

As per the notice:

Certain 2020 Chevrolet Corvette, 2020-2021 model year Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021 model year Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Camaro, Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon vehicles may present a broken engine valve spring. This may cause the engine to run rough, an engine knocking or ticking noise, a check engine light illumination, or a possible vehicle stall.
The Service Update includes a rather lengthy inspection procedure to test for potentially affected vehicles and mentions that the procedure should only be performed on vehicles that are within dealer inventory.

What's interesting to note here, is that the service update states the inspection procedure does not need to be performed on any dealer courtesy or demo vehicles with 500 miles (800 km) or more.

The reported cases of valve spring failure on 2020 Corvettes that we've seen have all had well under 500 miles on the odometer.

Along with the update, a list of affected vehicles by VIN and dealership was released with the service update. The list includes a total of forty five 2020 Corvettes that are listed as being either in dealer inventory or in transit. Those forty five Corvettes fall between serial numbers 6,971 to 12,692.

In late September, GM issued TSB #PIP5752A: Service Engine Light misfire engine noise With DTC P0300 P0106 P0506 which included 2020 Corvettes, Camaros, Silverados and GMC Sierras as well as 2021 Suburbans and Tahoes built between June 1, 2020 - September 15, 2020.

While only a date range was mentioned in that service bulletin, this is the first time we're seeing actual VINs reported.
