GM respods to "Autoweek" spy pics and story....

Autoweek Letters to Editor, issue dated June 16th:

For everyone who has written in anxiously anticipating the new Corvette C6-great to hear from you. However, despite AutoWeek's attempt to peek behind the covers, we will only say you haven't seen the real car yet. You won't be dissapointed!

Tom Kowaleski, Vice President, GMNA Communications.

Rick,

You MUST let us know immediately when you get one on your lot!
I will want to see one first hand.

Not a problem Heidi. I am sure we will be getting some of the first ones out. :)

I'm happy to see they responded. I said it back in 1996 and I've continued to say it with the launch of the C6 looming closer: before you pass final judgement, wait to see the production model sitting in front of you. :o

Actually, wouldn't it be kind of funny if GM Engineers decided to *really* have the last laugh and went to great measures to disguise these prototypes to make them look *nothing* like what the C6 will look like, and the real thing ends up blowing everyone's socks off!? :L

That's probably just what is going to happen! And then who will have the last laugh?!:L :L

I was glad to see GM respond to the letters to Autoweek, as well, since about everyone (including me) felt the car looked awful. Hopefully GM is telling the truth, and the real car will look different, but can anyone really believe GM? These folks have fibbed so many times before that I won't believe until I see it. Right now, they are running an ad campaign in which they "apologize" for the last twenty years and tell you about how all their focus group-types are meeting every morning at 6 a.m. to earn back your trust. Of course, they've been saying this for years. I think the best thing all of us can do is to continue to make it clear to these people that we've heard all this before, we are not impressed with the visual evidence of their work to date on the C6 and, frankly, we don't believe them now. Sorry to be so blunt, but this company has had more second chances than about any other auto company I can think of. When Toyota/Lexus goofs they fix the problem. When GM goofs you get talk, "focus groups" and new business plans---we don't care about your focus groups, we don't want to see your plans, we want to see your cars.

Come on everyone!!!When GM says"you haven't seen the real car yet" they're right we haven't (duh, it's covered)...they're just trying to throw us off. I really believe the shots Autoweek has published are pretty close to the real thing. I'm sure most of you have seen pictures of the new Cadillac XLR.....give more slope to the front-end and round off the back-end and what do you have....C-6!!!!!!!!!!! And I like the look of the new Caddy too!

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if they pulled a fast one and knocked our socks off. In fact I'm rooting for it. However, I seem to doubt it. Especially is CFour/BlackIce has seen the C6. He seems to indicate that it's pretty close to the spy shots, or at least nothing 'radically' changed. Evolution over Revolution, has been thrown around, right?

As I have been saying the Chevrolet version of the Cadillac sports car platform will be a handsome car indeed :D

all the people...

Well I haven't seen the pictures yet, but I imagine it'll be like the C5 when it came out. People with C4s didn't like it. I think the C5 grew on people, most like it now even if they didn't in '97. (I always did)

Likewise, the Chevrolet site had MT reviews of the brand new 1968. They weren't very good!

Latter Motor Trend reviewed the '73 and was pleased they got rid of the chrome bumpers!

I don't think most of us will be disappointed, but a few will have to be.

Just remember, from GM's own mouth. this is a progression not a redesign of the C-5. IMO really beleive you will see the C-5 in the C-6. and it will be as they stated a progression of the C-5 body design not a complete redesign...

That's one way to keep the costs down. (I just hope they don't find any more left over Vega steering wheels floating around).

I said it back in early late 1965 / early 1966 when the C3 design was rumoured to be coming for the 1967 model year. "Wait!" So GM did....for another whole year. :D

I still like mine better. :t
;LOL

thatd b nice, bc i like a good surprise, but then again, i wanna know. lol:confused

I am surprised that we haven't seen anymore pctures of the test cars riding around.Did GM take then off the streets?.....if this is a way to make the curious ones think about going to the unveiling in January.....it's working!!!!

Some spy shots of the real car will be out soon. The same thing happened with the c5. Some of the websites are still around that have spy photos and they are perfect shots of the vette. Just search 97 vette and youll find them.
