Ladies and gentlemen.

Thinking about buying a Tech 1 for my 1993 Convertible. Important issue here is that i never had one and have to learn how to use it. Is there anyone who can give me some few lines with help.

Will a Tech 1 with cartridges for the year be ready to go or is there aditional software/gadgets i have to buy.

Which cartridges will i need for complete check and reprogramming. Have ordered a new modul (CCM) and this needs to be programmed before i innstall it i'm told.

Corvette mecanichs are rare in Norway and i have to go on a daytrip just to get to the closest GM garage, so thats why i want to learn some more and buy tools like this.

Any information and internet links regarding use/manuals for Tech 1 will be of interesst.

Thanks,
Steve

your best option is to get a tech1 with a master cartridge it will have every thing you need for diagnostics much better than rooting around for single cartridges if they were even available seperatly for that year Steve

First---before you go looking for a scan tester, if you haven't already, you must purchase a factory service manual.

You need to look for a TECH 1 Series A rather than the older TECH 1.

As for software, whether you buy the individual software cartridges or the so-called "Mass Storage Cartridge" (MSC) you need the "Powertrain" cartridge to diagnose the ECM, you need the "Chassis" cartridge to diagnose the ABS and you'll need the "Body" cartridge to diagnose the CCM.

In each of these cases, obvously, you need software which supports model year 1993 or later and make sure, that software manuals come with the cartridges because there are many TECH1 operations, including reprogramming the CCM, which are not covered in the FSM.

The TECH1-A is long out of production so your stuck with searching for a serviceable T1 along with appropriate software and documentation.

Note that if you drive the vehicle for ovr 100 miles after CCM replacement without reprograming the odometer information will be deleted.

First, thank you guys.

Looked around eBay for a manual covering the CCM programing with no luck. Anyone who have this instruction and like to share it?

Steve

you will still need a tech one and it will need to have a certain version of programming in the mass storage cartridge if the updates are to new this capability is lost i did not update mine and can still do ccm programming i can look to see what version it is if you are interested it is pretty staight forward if you have the correct tool and like the previous post said it needs to be programmed before 100 miles after install Steve

You need the T1 and the body software to reprogram the CCM and the instructions are in the manual for the body software.

Tech 1

Thank you all. Can anyone tell me the difference beteen tec 1 and tec 1 a and is it possible to use tech 1 a cartridges on a tech 1? Which will be best on my 1993 LT1? :confused

Thanks again.

Steve

A tech1 and tech1a are basicly the same the 1a is an updated tech1 the cartridges are interchangable be sure to check on update revisions on the mass storage cartridge it will at least need to include your year car but not to new steve

Tech 1

Is there a way to tell 1 and 1A from eachother. Hard to tell if it's a genuine product on pages as eBay. Anyone who knows a link for a PDF user manual for the same produkts.

Regards,
Steve

they will say it right on the case I think the1a has an extra plug port on the case mine is a tech1 so i can not tell you for sure on the updates to 1a but either one will get the job done Steve
