GM tries to cut energy bills

"I've seen plants and offices kept at 55 degrees," he said. "Some of these people realize they're competing on a global basis. They know what it means for their business."

Along with their lunch pails and safety goggles, General Motors Corp. line workers might want to add a warm sweater to the list of items they bring to work each day.

Looking to save millions on energy bills, the automaker is asking its plants to crank down the heat this winter.

The move is part of a larger effort by GM to cut soaring energy costs starting at the most individual level.

Neelands said the automaker's energy use is down 27 percent since 2002 -- only 7 percent has come from shuttered factories. He estimated that about half of that savings comes from changing worker behavior.

Right...........



I guess having the factory at 55 degrees wont affect quality at all..
