Going to the Dragstrip, .... Any suggestions?

How fast you goes, depends on how much money you want to spend. I run 12.2@115 on just the motor. I got 3.73 gears, heads & cam and some other stuff.

Ub2 Slow ...........

did you happen to take before & after gear swap drag times?? Just wondering how much difference that made, both at the track, and normal crusing gas mileage, that is the modification i am leaning towards most, no NOS, No cams, No head, etc. Just want to remain simple ( mufflers & PPP), cause the wife will still be driving this as her daily driver to work. Thankie All!

Slim, the gears were about the best mod. I went from a 13.6 to a 13.0, if I remember correctly, with gears, Ram Air and exhaust. Then I started with the engine mods. I have the time slips back home. My gas milage dropped from about 19 in town to about 16 and the highway went from 26 to 24. Once I did the engine mods, I actually went up in milage, to 19 in town and 28 on the highway. Go figure, better gears and over a hundered more hp and I am getting better gas milage.

hey how are you.went to my first drag yesturday 1994 my best time was 13.9 only mods i did was k&n air with opened lid and magnaflow muffs.what can i do to get times like yours.now my car has 66,000 on it i will get the rear oil changed.the only thing to is i had a full tank of gas and did not let any pressure off of the tires.thanks can you give me some suggestions

I have been thinking of going from 2:73's to 3:07's. How much "faster" will it make the car and what kind of did you get? Thanks

:w Hello again looks like you brought the time down a little, not bad just run less fuel and take 5 gallons of gas in a can and have a little less then 1/2 tank in the car.
you carry about 140 lbs on board when tank full and the 100 lbs of that fuel will slow you down by 1/10 which will put you at 13.70 when removed.
I would also add 1 can of nitrous off road fuel addative the blue can in the black box its cat converter safe and will give you another 1/10 now with good tires nitto drag radials 315/17 you will be consistant. As I said the cut outs in the exaust from jegs should be a thought.Or a power programer about $350.00.
Look in your glove box center console and see if you have a G44 ON THE PAPER ON THE LID if it says G44 YOU have a 307 rear end.
If your running 2.73 and want to go into the 3.07 you will have to use a spacer plate 2s interchange with 2s .3s interchange with 3s and4s with 4s.

I am guessing you could probably pick up about .2-.4 of a second. You will definatly feel the difference.

Going again next Wednesday

:D Hope to have new mufflers on, and temps will be much lower , like 20 - 25 degrees.
Will let ya know the results :D

Well, I went again Wednesday.............

And I am disaapointed.............

As an update, instead of installing mufflers, I tried straight pipe replacements of the myufflers. Not too bad of a sound and resonation is tolerable. Having the straight pipes and a very different temperature of 70 degrees! ....I had alot of anticipation on what my times would be............... to my dismay,....... I only ran 13.905 (with a .075 RT), from a best of 13.915 when it was 100 degrees out and stock mufflers......... What gives?? I had hoped for times approaching 13.5 with these 2 mods, (K&N and No muffler restrictions). As a note, I have a 160 degree t-stat, NO TB bypass. On the first run that yeilded the 13.90 run engine temps were at 180 degrees, but as the cool evening wore on, temps rose to 200 to 210. Even in these cooler temps my engine temp rose.

My future plans are to install a hypertech Programmer to put everything in sycn............ Any ideas ???

try some better tires

Idaho Slim-
The best thing that I did to improve my times was to get some drag radials. It cut about 0.4 off my time. I did not read back through this whole thread, so I hope this is still pertinant.
