Like this one? Wouldn't fit in my car, but 18,000 ft-lbs. of torque will wake you right up:D

'67, how did you paint the gas cap fiberglass red with the crossflags in the way? Always wondered about how to do this. PT :beer

Yes, Patrick, that piece is a nightmare to paint.

Masking tape and "lots" of patience. Even so, there are two very small areas where the red paint snuck in under the radar. After a week or so, I'll use some nail-polish remover and a Q-Tip to get rid of them.

The hardest part are the flagpoles. YIKES!!!

I've resigned myself to the fact that it will never be "perfect". I figure that way I'll be closer to Top Flight. :D

(I'd love to know how the factory did it.)

Hint...hint...hint -- JohnZ

don't know for sure how they were done but the painted trim done where I worked was done with a "mask" simular to stencils.
the background was painted first then the parts were put in a mask and the details were painted

By the way, Patrick, my aftermarket cap is chrome under the black primer that it came with. If yours is fiberglass, I should check my original cap.

They weren't painted at St. Louis - they came from the supplier already painted (which is why the part number for it is shown as a "chart" in UPC 1 Asm, Sheet F3); each color of finished part had a different final part number. I've had success with masking film from a hobby shop, lots of patience, and plenty of SHARP #11 X-Acto blades.

How BIG are you going to go? I am going to pull the original engine and trans and install a keisler 5 speed and a LARGE crate engine (502, 540 or the new big GM monster I think its 672) sometime this year. I am alotting around 10-12 large for this as long as my wife doesn't find out. I think 600-700 hp should do for now.

Best regards,
Gerry
