I actually was waiting for an older style Q-Jet to be rebuilt and delivered, so I could ditch the computer controls, but then thought, what the heck! I had labored over the winter fixing all of Bubba's misdeeds, radiator and shroud back in, water pump and correct intake manifold back on. Then I got ancy and decided to just drop in the original distributor and bolt on the carb from hell and give it a shot! I hooked up as many elec. wires as I could ,(no smog pump) and now have a block off plate instead of an EGR valve. It fired right up! No leaks! The "Check Engine" light is no longer on!
It does run somewhat rough at idle, but I'm now wondering if I can just get away with using the electronic carb. There might be a vacuum leak. Maybe I'll play with it a little and ask some specific questions here later. Anyway, I still have to install the power steering parts, but then I can get it ON THE ROAD!
