Got tranny cooler installed, finally.

Went to the task of installing the Hayden transmission cooler today. Not the slickest job I've ever performed, but not near as bad as I had anticipated.

I put it right in front of the A/C condensor on little standoffs which keep it about a half inch from the condensor itself. The hose which came with the unit fit perfectly with none to spare. The installation required no modifications to the vehicle and only the removal of the front air dam for ease of access.

I got the 26,000lb (vehicle) rated unit, which cost all of 34 bucks plus a few for shipping and it took all of 90 minutes to complete the job from start to finish.

While it's not necessarily hot around these parts this time of year, prior to doing this, the tranny fluid would heat up to the low 200's in no time around town. Now, it stays between 135 and 160. Best tranny insurance money can buy, in my opinion.

Just thought, y'all would want to know.

where is the tranny temp guage? is it a factory guage like the oil temp?? or you added one?

On my 96, it is a part of the "Gauges" selection on the dash display, which includes the alternator output, the engine oil temp and the coolant temp.

I don't know what other years had this. Sorry, I'm still kinda new with these Corvettes.

engine oil temp is just that engine oil temp Not trans oil temp. i was wondering the same thing cause i seen you post this before. on my 87 it has the volts/coolant/oil temperatures same as yours i would think. i'll have to look in my uncles 95 to confirm this.

Did you route the lines straight to the cooler itself or did you use the radiator and cooler together?

'96s, and maybe those with similar speedo/tach clusters have coolant, engine oil and trans oil readouts in the center digital readout. It real nice.

Out of curosity - how did you pipe it? Aux cooler before or after OEM radiator cooler? Did you have to cut any lines and clamp on the hose - or is there a fitting available for line connections?

To answer yours and Mics question, I piped it in line after the radiator. Also, the kit came with all the necessary hose clamps and an adaptor fitting for attaching the hose to the radiator output.

Nothing had to be cut or modified. So, if one desired to remove the external cooler and return the vette to original condition it would be a simple matter of undoing the hose clamps, removing the adaptor and putting everything back the way it was originally.

Great job. I also installed a cooler several years ago. Along with a deep sump trans pan from Deale, available from Jegs.
Has special tubes welded to bottom, to help cool, along with 1 more quart of fluid.
