1971 Coupe LS5
Bought my first vette last year. A basket case. 1971 LS5, auto,PS,PB, AC,Tilt/Tele. Had rat bones in air vents, interior gone but my wife & I saw potential. Turned into a family project. My dad works on it, my nephew did the motor, my wife is doing interior and I do a little of everything. Have got great help off of this forum, bought a dist. from Jack (works great). Just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading about everyones experiances. I hope this link works.

Wow. I like what you did so far on the car,

Tell me, did you replaced the carpet yourself? I want to replace my carpet on my 74 too. I don't know if I can do it myself. Is it difficult? do I need to glue to carpet to the floor or just apply it?

Should I attemp this on my own or have a professional do it?

Just to let you know, I'm very handy in general mecanic, wood working, plumbing, etc ... So if it's not too complicated I should be able to pull it off. But never did anything like that before.

Any instructions you can give me?

Carpet is very easy. Just take your time and you will be very pleased with the results. You don't have to glue the carpet in place but I recommend that you place one of the thin heat barriers in place and that will need to be glued in with the 3M spray adhesive.

Car looks great nichols78.

So you are saying: I put a thin coat of heat barrier and glue that to the floor, then lay the carpet over without glue.

Did I understand correctly?

what's gonna hold the carpet in place on the sides. Is it the wall panels that hold the carpet in place?

We glued the heat barrier down pretty good and are just tacking the carpet down with spray adhesive. That way we should be able to pull the carpet up if we have too.
