Ive been thinking of my (hopefull) future GS, and im not too fond of the colors it has. what do you guys think of these colors? Red vette, with a blue stripe, and green hashmarks? Or should i not mess with the GS paint scheeme and just do that to an LT4, or is it even possible to get it painted like that?

If your wondering why i picked those colors, its beacuse IMHO Corvettes look great red, and blue goes good on red, and green becuase it will match my neons, and the hashmarks are like the spirit of the GS, and the green light emmenating from the bottom would look phat.

dont forget guys, i can always put the old colors back if i have to sell it, and take off the neons so the next owner can enjoy the orignal vette.

Unless you redo a GS in original colors to improve the paint job, then leave it alone. The white skunk stripe and the red hash marks are both vinyl decals. I've seen a GS that had been repainted with the stripe and hash marks done in paint, all then covered in several layers (7 I think) of clear coat. Outstanding paint job...about $10,000 or more I believe.
Once you've painted a GS, or any Corvette for that matter, other than during a restoration, you just killed the value of the car.
Most Corvette buyers and the majority of all car buyers will walk away from a car that has been painted. It means there is a history on the car that is unknown. You could buy a car brand new, take it from the show room floor to a paint shop and have a $10,000 paint job on the car and then try and sell it...you just lost yourself upwards of $20,000...$10,000 on the paint, and $5,000-$10,000 because the car has been painted.
If you buy a GS with resale in mind, don't paint it, don't install neon you'll have to hack up the orginal wiring, don't replace the stereo. Leave the car original.
If you want something that is all yours...customize it how you desire, but don't expect to get nearly the price of an unmolested vehicle back when sell it.

well, being poor i plan to buy a GS with a horrible paint job, then get it repainted when i get enough cash those colors (might take a few years). I dont plan on selling it, as the GS is my faviorate vette, but if i have too for some odd reason, then i think the new paint would be worth more than the old paint, for these 2 reasons

1. the paint would be new, taken care of, and polished/waxed
2. it would be unique. i have not yet seen or heard of a GS with those colors.

With only 1000 GS made, chances of finding one with poor paint where the paint wasn't ruined by a wreck...slim to none.
I have seen a '96 Collector's Edition around town that has gone a similar route as you're looking. Instead of painting what will be a valuable collector's car, they took a Collector's Edition which many were made of and added a dark grey skunk stripe and the red has marks over the silve paint. Sharp looking car, didn't repaint the entire car so no loss of value, and they didn't ruin a true GS. Plus if they have the LT-4/6Speed combo, they have the same running gear as a GS.
Regardless of why you paint a car, unless you are stripping it down and restoring it (read take it all apart and put it back together again) a new paint job will not necessarily add any value to the vehicle. In cases where a specialty vehicle is concerned, sports cars for instance, painting without restoring typically drops the price significantly. Regardless of vehicle type, you will never get out of it what you put into it. The only way a car gains value is by being unmolested for a very long time. A "survivor". Or one which has been meticuously restored from the frame up. Even then, you may spend twice what you will be able to sell it for.
For the sake of arguement, it would be better from a Corvette appreciator's stand point to buy a '96 with the LT-4 package, paint it the colors you want in GS style and be happy with it. Total cost of the car and paint would probably be less than what you can get a real GS for. Bonus also being you didn't ruin a rare and collectable car.

yeah, i think i will try gettin an LT4 painted that way, so i wonlt ruin the GS paint job. but i heard the the GS has bigger wheels and somthing else different than an LT4, nothing major, but i would like to get that on my LT4, or are those just false rumors?

Admiral Blue is hands down the best shade of blue to ever be sprayed on a car - bar none. To change the color of any car that started that color, GS or not, would be blasphemy:D. JMHO Even without being a GS, the color in and of itself is rare.

I am with Eric big time on this. That paint combo on the GS is one of the things that makes a GS. There is also much history in that blue, white and red hash mark combo going back to the C2 Grand Sports. If you really must trash a Vette, don't do it to a GS.

:jI almost fell out of my chair in shock!:j If you want to paint an RPO LT4 like that, go ahead. But GS's are much to rare to do change the color scheme so radically. And IMO, once it's painted like that, it's not really a GS anymore.:(

I couldn't agree with 71 Shark more! Of course I'm a little partial.
94 Admiral Blue Coupe.

Really whats the point of a GS then?? Just buy a LT4 Collectors Edition and pick your color??

Oooo, that's a purty car you got there mister!:D

God please don`t change the colors of your imaginary classic Vette that you want to buy in the future,go the route of buying some everyday model and ruin it.My Vette is completely stock except some minor mods......air box,kN filter,Tb foil.I plan on adding a chip and muffler eliminators.I will keep my original mufflers and chip so i can return to stock.I know its just one mans opinion, but why ruin something so beautiful.

I knew yall were gona flame for the very thought of changing the paint of a GS :L i was the only one that voted yes, hoping maby someone else would change thier mind, but even with the 1 yes noone else has :L put your minds at ease tho, I was only going to paint the GS if yall were like"thats a great idea". if noone posted i would of went with the LT4 idea, and since you are so strong about it, even if i get a GS i would not change the paint. but im sure there is someone out there that changed the paint of the GS, or maby just painted over the hashmarks because they didnt like it:eek

Thanks Shark! You know, the it did cross my mind to maybe go for the GS look with Bluvet. But so few built in 94, i'm leaving her as is.

No Justin....with only 1000 GS produced I don't think you will find anyone that repainted it or removed the hash marks.

Actually, I have heard stories of one or two GS's that were sold to the customer minus the Hashmarks (wich are just tape). Apparently the dealership did not like the look of the Hashmarks, so they pulled them off.

I'm glad we were able to change your mind about repainting a GS like that, Justin. It would be cheaper, and easier to get ahold of an ROP LT4 car to paint like that.

Jason

Naturally, I am partial to red.................I ordered it red..had it professionally redone to specs w/collector silver.........also to the wheels..........it is all paint including the hash marks..........as to the value..........I could probably sell it in a minute to a buckeye........but I don't see any reason in the future why I'd sell it........I'll just add on to the garage........I also played with the motor and the gearing in the back.............She is just the way I like her and I think I am the one that counted......

:nono

The red hashmarks are vinyl decals as are the small white pinstripes. The Skunk stripe is painted.
