I just happened to notice on my build sheet that the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) shown there differs from what is found in Michael Antonick's books, both the Black Book as well as the C4 Corvette Specs book.

Mike's Black Book shows a curb weight of 3,216 lbs. for the coupe. His C4 Specs book shows a curb weight for both the coupe and convertible as being 3,299 lbs., while the same book shows the coupe's shipping weight of 3,125 lbs. and the convertible's shipping weight at 3,195 lbs.

(Curb weight is the calculated weight of a vehicle with standard equipment, only as designed with the additional load of oils, coolant and fuel filled to capacity. Shipping weight is the same as curb weight except with three gallons of gasoline.)

Now, my build sheet shows a GVWR of 1704 kg or 3,756 lbs.. It also breaks it down so far as the axle weight ratings: GAWR F: 1768, R: 1988 (3,756 lbs.) for the curb weight, and GAWR F: 1689 R: 1505 (3,194 lbs.) for the shipping weight.

The bad thing is my DMV title doesn't show a vehicle weight for my Corvette; it does for the truck but not the Vette for some reason.

I took into consideration the optional equipment weight differential for my car and that accounted for maybe another 87 lbs. of weight, and if I fill the twenty-gallon tank to capacity, and use the maximum number from the rule-of-thumb weight estimates for gasoline which is around 5.5 to 6.5 pounds/gallon, the two together only account for around 275-300 lbs..

There's a 562 lb. difference on my build sheet between the build sheet's curb weight and its shipping weight. The weight difference on the rear axle alone is 483 lbs.- in that case the tank would have to have around an 80-gallon capacity to hold that much gasoline!

I gotta find a scale locally on which I can weigh my car. :eyerole

bring it to Ohio every little town has a grain mill with a scale ;LOL

Truck stops have scales and you might even be able to talk one of the guys at a state scale on the interstate to give you your weight.

Ken, the GROSS Vehicle Weight Rating is the maximum safe weight of the car AND its contents. So take that 562 lbs and that's how much payload you can carry. Your DMV papers , if they're like MD's, show the weight CLASS your vehicle is in. The Vette would be in the <3700 class.

For comparison, my Outback has a GVWR of 4100 lbs. That's 3200 for the car's curb weight and 900 split among up to 5 occupants and luggage.

The last time I weighted my car, I went to a 'material' dealer and used their scale. By 'material' dealer, I mean a place that sales rock and other landscaping stuff by the truck load. Their scale had a 20# accuracy range.

I weighed my vettes at a road side scale in oregon, it was closed but the read out was visible.
The coupe 3004 lbs
The convert 3500
both with me and mostly full tanks

Most scale operators when they are not busy will let you weigh in and usually free unless you want a certified weight.

I understand the GVRW, but I always thought curb weight was the weight of the vehicle, which in this case is exactly the same as the GVRW. ;shrug

Just so you have something to compare to. I put my 90 on a scale at the local grain elevator with a full tank of gas and nobody in it.. 3400 lbs, they say acuracy is plus minus 25 lbs. My registration says 3300 lbs .
GVWR on the door tag reads 3949 that should mean that with a full tank of gas I can carry 549 lbs in the car.
:w

Ken, I don't see where in your post the GVWR = the curb weight... GVWR != GAWR...

Rich, it's the same weight according to the build sheet:
