Hardtop to disassembly and stripped in 2 hours...

Well, I made the plunge... I got the BB hood to the point where it's ready to go to the body shop.. Took it by a couple of painters and found it's going to cost a bunch to get it right but hey it's an original hood and fits my car surround so good.. But back to the topic at hand....

I decided since I got as far as I wanted on the hood I'd start working on the hardtop. I got done with dinner and stared taking apart the hardtop.. Man I never knew that there was so much trim and pieces to the top... I really think that there are more parts in the top than the rest of the car.. :crazy: Funny thing I thought well lets see how many coats of paint are on the top after the eight layers I found on the hood... Two coats... Red and then the original Silver laquer... Took about 45 minutes to strip the top with a razor blade.. Oh I know there will be at least another couple of hours getting it ready for paint but I was so happy to see all that Maroon paint off the top.. Just a good night I thought I'd share with you guys... To bad it'll take me another two months to get it ready to go on the car..

Anyone price weather stripping lately?? :crazy: :crazy: 300 hundred for the hardtop kit, 100 a piece for the latches, 200 hundred for the headliner.... Then another 250 to paint it.... Now I know why the vendors get 2k for a restored hardtop... I think I'm going to reuse the rear window.. We'll see once I clean it up a bit more... If not that's another 250.... Oh the joys of wanting a hardtop for my car.... Dave...

I restored a 63 hardtop last year along with the customers car and yes I was surprised at the price of the parts and how many there were.The weatherstripping price doesnt surprise me but all the hardware and latches did.

While on the subject of weatherstripping

Over the years I have purchased and installed ( or tried to install ) weatherstripping from most of the Corvette resellers, and I found that the only supplier that sold me products that fit, and that I was not obliged to send back again and forth for correct replacements, was Corvette Rubber, in Michigan.

They don't have any type of discount program, or volume incentives, but their regular pricing is always slightly lower then other Corvette resellers.

The only piece of trim that I can't figure out how to get off is the rear upper window trim. Does anyone have a way to get this off? I'm thinking it's like the windshield molding with clips under it.. However I've never pulled my windshield molding either.. I just don't want to mess it up.. Thanks guys..Dave.
