The question I have is whats the difference every source I'm looking at shows a 8 inch is for the high perf. and the 63/4 is the regular, but I put a 8 on a l-48 once is there any other difference I should be aware of I have a 75 l-82

The balancer (which is actually a torsional damper, not a balancer, except on 454's) is tuned to the application it's made for, to dampen high-frequency torsional vibration and avoid fatigue failure of the nose of the crank. Doesn't matter much on a standard low-performance application, but using the small one on a high-performance high-rpm application increases the likelihood of crank nose failure.

The 74 was a L-48 and it was a GM balancer now my 75 L-82 looks questionable my local part sources books show one listing and a exc. high perf. ,but they have a 8 inch balancer I'm confused I don't want to make a costly mistake
