Coming back from Denver on I -70 today, we were eastbound and saw a red C5 that just didn't look right headed westbound. It was without a doubt a Corvette, but it had been modified with the front end and rear end to look like a 57 T-Bird.

Not something I would want, but I wish I could have got a picture of it. Somebody went to alot of trouble.

Has anyone else ever seen this car?;shrug

Has anyone seen it?

You know, it happened so fast, my first thought was 57 T-Bird. But, now that my daily Corvette calendar picture is a 55 Gypsy Red Corvette, it makes more sense that it was modified as an early vette. Probably a 53.
Seems it would be against some rule somewhere, to make a Vette look like a bird.:L

During the "late C5 era" there was an upfitter which was grafting custom, retro-inspired, body work onto C5s which had them looking like '53's.

I'll bet that's what it was.

I recently saw one of those running around my neighborhood. Looked pretty nice for what it was. Unique.

I've seen at least 3 of them and have to say they were very well done. Someone close to me has one.

Then there is the Corvette that got caught in a Quisinard.

;LOL:rotfl :upthumbs :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

I went to Vettes on the Rockies in 2005, there were, as I remember, about 7 or 8 of those there. I guess someone now has done a '62 body on a C5 chassis. They look OK to me, maybe cheaper than buying an original.

The 789 doesn't do anything for me.

Well, I'll admit that I haven't priced an original 1953 lately, but some of those AAT Commemorative Edition C5's apparently bring big bucks... One was recently sold at the OC 2010 Barrett-Jackson auction for $110,000 (see Barrett-Jackson Auction Company - 2001 CHEVROLET CORVETTE). Another failed to sell a month later when a $75,000 bid did not meet the reserve (see 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible 350 HP, Automatic for sale by Mecum Auction)...

I guess those AAT Commemorative Edition C5's are OK, but honestly: if I was gonna plunk down $110k on a Corvette, I'd buy a ZR-1...!

Wow, I must say that really don't like that 789, especially with the 57 front end. It is too low to the ground. I don't care for the the 53 mod either. From the first picture, it gives it an Jaguar XKEish look. The only mod like this that I thought looked good are the C5 to C2 mods. Those are done pretty well.

I wonder if anyone has done a C5 to C3 mod?

I've also seen several "1967" bodied C5's in some mags, both verts and coupes. Very cool looking..IMO.

I never have liked the "53" C5 conversions, but the "62"s were alittle better.

hideous , just hideous :ugh

I've seen a few around at some shows, there was one up at VOTR this year. Personally I don't care for them, but that is what makes the world go 'round, everyone has their own taste.:W
