The hatch is only releasing on one side the passenger side mech wont release and my top is stowed away right now any ideas?? Thx

Try latching the side that released, than while you are pushing the release button strike the hatch near the corner where the latch is with your fist. I have had mine bind and that released it. In case your not aware of it there is a switch on the back of each door panel so you can work from the passenger side.
There is the chance that a wire came lose or broke. If that is the case I am not sure how to get at it.

I had the same problem with my '89. I took it in to the Chevy dealership to have the decklid release actuator on the affected side replaced since I couldn't open the decklid myself. The actuator costs about $80 bucks at MidAmerica

Fixed it! First had to figure a way to get the lid open so I was able to sneek in there with a 13mm open end and took off the two nuts that hold the latch hook to the decklid leaving the hook still locked in the mechanism while still being able to open the lid, as I said earlier the other side was still working. Now with the lid open I was able to see what happened. There is a little cable setup that tugs on this pin that actually releases the locking mechanism, well it fell off. There is a small pressed on locking clip thats gone missing ,anyway put it back on and used a small hose clamp to hold it from slipping off.Works good as new!
