A word of experience. Wrap the air hose over your shoulder to keep it from dragging over the surface you just painted.

I am painting my 87 LeSabre today.

Black is so easy to paint.:L I have the hood hanging off the patio rafters and will put it back on when it stops raining. Fortunately, I got the painting finished and dried before it started.

I have been touching up some stone chips on the Red Vette, and it's not as much work(as I'm sure you know) as painting the whole thing at once.

over the shoulder dont work for me, with my other hand, I keep the hose high and tight all times..

I'm glad you didn't have a heart attack when you found out the cost of RED paint. Mine was $83.00/Qt! I am dating myself when I say I used to buy Metalflake candy colors for $16.00/Qt.

I started the repaint on my front bumper last sunday. Applied the final clearcoats on thursday. Wetsanded and buffed out today. Scariest thing I've ever done to date. There's something about taking sandpaper to a vette that goes against the laws of nature...;LOL

For the record.........rubber bumpers are a biatch to buff out.

:ugh

geeze guys, to be honest with you, I didn't think I could paint my vette all that good, and didn't trust or could afford the high cost of painting, this isn't my first but my 4th in 10 years.. I really wanted to buy some quality paint but where afraid to spend all that money only to find that there would be area's that need to be repainted or I just couldn't get into some tight spots, (under wing in fender louvers rear light buckets, in between bumper and spoiler) well now I know, I can paint the car rather well.. I maybe put 500 miles a year on the car, so hopefully the paint will last a few years.. next time I do my car I'll wont spare any cost on paint supplies.... so to tell you.. I spent 170.00 on paint, clear and 2k primer (the kirker kit)

you may see a light white spot on the front middle spoiler, it's just residue, for the clear (color sanding) I din't wash it all away.

Looks a nice job from the pictures

thanks.... it was fun painting... id'e like to ad some silver stripes down the middle..

My 81 cost almost a Grand to paint and high end paint job, but not their best! At the time that was what the budget would handle; The bottom line is I am happy with the end result.

way to go. nice job looking at the pictures! add another notch to your belt as far as accomplishments for sure, lol.
as far as paint $$ try the cameleon stuff that is being used on a lot of show cars. last time i checked on it it was over $40.00/oz.!!! i was told by a friend who has a body shop that you should figure on about $800.00 for total paint supplies to do a vette. most of the colors today are at least 2 stage and most are 3. that's what makes the costs add up quickly. primer and clear are relatively inexpensive.

I'm getting ready to paint mine this month, hopefully. I have spent the last few months stripping paint and sanding. I'm installing shaved door handles (don't hate me) and painting with house of kolors paint. This is my first time painting a car. I have experience painting a whole lot of different coatings just not on a car.
