Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

have you painted your own vette

WOW...you got talent! I am doing some 'poking' around with the pricing of supplies for a paint job. Went the whole PPG system...BC/CC, 2K primer builder etc. Just the paint system...$950 bucks!! Now for me..that's at the point where if I screw it up, I'd have to add that price onto whatever it would take to repaint the car. Too rich for my blood just to mess it up.

So I priced the mid-range paint system from NAPA and it was $550. I'll take that gamble and chalk it up to a learning experience if I screw it up as I have painted a few cars before.

What is this 'Kirker kit'?

76L82..

thanks for the compliment. you can check out www.smartshoppersinc.com you can see the kirker complete paint kits.. when you apply the clear just mix enough to do one coat at a time. it dont seem to have long pot life.. I dont know where in Maine you are I'de give you a hand, but I am only good for an hour drive...:puke .. the only reason I went with the kirker kit is because, I was unsure I could get all the tight spots on the car, I even had a body shop say they couldn't gauranttee no sags because of the curves, everything is molded, and the front spoiler was to them a problem.. but, that was macco.. THAT WAS ALSO 6-OR 7 YEARS AGO.. it was pretty easy.. I am thinking about opening a detail shop, where I would also repair and repaint doors bumpers ect.. I'll also add the clear dont flow all that well, so plan on color sanding and buffing...
