I was out at a cruisin with Garner and the left light wouldn't come up. I was like WTF.. I rebuilt the motors/gear box a year or so ago and replaced the potmetal gear and greased everything up good.. Well after pulling the motor/gearbox today I found the gear all chewed up again..
So started investigating the cause and not the effect this time since the gear was only about about two years old at the most. So unless I just got a bum gear todays efforts will be well rewarded either way. When opening and closing the bucket with the motor removed it bound just enought to require a little more force to rotate from the full closed position to about 30 percent of travel. So out comes the headlight bucket... I just couldn't bring myself to pull the bumpers and grill after all the time I took a year ago to get them close to right. So I fought those will removing the bucket.. Man that was no fun job... One thing I learned that's I didn't see was there are two clear rubber plugs in the buckets on each side to access the bolts.. To bad I didn't find those until I had the bucket out..
Once I pulled it all apart it looks like the the inboard ball was not frozen but there was enough rust there to prevent smooth operation. We'll see what happens when I put it all back together tomorrow and get all my alignments straight. Just thought I'd post up for you guys, sometimes it feels like one step forward and two steps back. Don't be fooled though the removal of the headlight buckets is not for the faint of heart. However it's not to bad either.
Hopefully once I get this done both will go up fast agian... Dave..
