help me please
thanks

So you're saying that the headlights don't want to go up some of the times?

Do you hear the headlight motor running?

A common issue with the C4 headlights is that the bushings get worn with the openings and closings. There are 3 plastic bushings in the headlight unit that get worn down to powder and the headlight fails to open.

Jon will see this shortly and post a link on how to replace the bushings. It's not a difficult thing to do and the bushings can be had for less than $10.

Sounds like it could be the bushings, but you will know more once you get the headlight motor off.

the bounce thing sounds like them "three little bushings" which u wont see when u open the gearbox--just white goo... eventually fries the headlight motor cont module....buddys vette did this recently.... just happened to have lites/motors/module from a pontiac sunbird-1990???--ez to find in jy if u look for flip-up lites....right is left tho

Yeah, I'm there now. So by your posting, I guess it wasn't you who outbid me on eBay by a dang $1 on a brand new left side headlight motor.
My problem?....
I had some body work done by pinheads and the headlight doors weren't aligned properly. The left one not only was catching on the hood opening, the screw fell outta the bezel. And yes, the headlight motor was still turning, so the bushings are on the outs.
My plan was to get new motors and have the old ones refurbished and ready as backups.

You may also have worn gears along with the bad bushings. I think I saw a set of Bronze gears instead of the delron plastic one's as my wife's TA had the same problem and I replaced the gears(metal) and bushings problem solved. I know there are metal gears for the F-body but not sure about our C-4's.

It could be the gears, but I thought all the headlights after I think 1989 were the metal gears? I may be wrong, but I know that the first few years of the C4 had problems with the gears wearing out that was later corrected, but I just don't remember if they replaced them with metal gears.

The bushing are available through Ecklers or Mid-America.

Jim

I will look as I have a lot of information on the late modelC4 had my 96 LT4 since 1999. You may be right about the gears as my head lights haven't failed me (yet). Have Fun and Happy Holidays
