Head Lights won't stop trying to shut!

Started tonight, at first they wouldn't open, after playing with the manual controls they started working. Unfortunately when you shut the car off they both close but the driver side continues to grind for about 10 seconds and then shut off. Is there an adjustment on a limit switch that needs to be adjusted.

Thanks,
Hands

Hands,
What you're describing sounds like an issue with the headlight actuator/motor. Check out THIS THREAD and see if it helps.

Headlights

My 2000 coupe is doing this also. This started last night too! I'll go check out the thread and find out how to fix it.

to help prevent gear wear

never open or close the headlights while at speed because the wind resistance put extra load on the stock plastic gears

Gears are stripped. If you take the housing apart and rotate them 180 degrees that will fix the problem temporarily.

There is brass replacement gear you can buy that will solve the problem permenantly.

About a year ago there was a rash of headlight gear problems which at that time someone suggested that it could be due to excessive on and off triggered by the sentinal (automatic headlight). I did noticed that everytime I started the car in the garage the headlights came on and when I pulled it out they went off (up and down). I turned off the sentinal, yes I turn them on and off myself, but I do believe it does save the headlight gears.
Just a thought.......:beer :w

I'll order 2 of the brass gears and change them both out.

Thanks for all your help.

You should also check the actual casing of the motor, in my case (which happened just as described), the crimping of the motor case to the rest of the actuator had failed. You can just wiggle the case and see if it's loose.

Chuck.

My actuator (sp) went out on the dirver side first then about year later, the passenager side went out as well. Since I had the replacement done, no problmes since.
