From what i can gather, most people will tell me LT's are the way to go with my '88 a4.

But can anyone acutly quantify why long tubes ore better than shorties...

will a LT header, 1 5/8 Primary and 3" collector out perform a shortie of the same dementions. Is it then the radius and the number of bends that make the LT better?

What are we talking about here 1CFM or 100CFM difference?

Thanks guys.

Dave

short headers aren't really much diff from the stock GM manifolds. were long tube headers, all four going into one collector are almost the same in length. so all 8 exhaust ports are leaveing the head at the same pressure. tuned headers are really the best, tuned means all the tubes are exactly the same in length, but costly and hard to find for most cars. i haven't gotten the money together for them yet, but everyone here says TPIS makes the best long tube headers for L98's and comes with a front Y-pipe too.
i am sure others with get in on this, with more and better info.

The shorty headers give about 5-7rwhp, the LTs give about 15rwhp on L98s.
Thats the important thing you need to know

Shorty's are not the same dimensions as LT primaries, their tubes are not as long and you end up with more backpressure because of it, they're little better than stock manifolds.
