As the headlights revolve on my 71, they slightly brush against the body of the car. I want to adjust them, but I do not know if I adjust them while they are in the "on" or "off" position.

Note: When lights are off, they visually look properly centered and where they should be. Any recommendations? Thanks.

On each side of the headlight housing is a small bushing with 3 bolts that hold them in. Loosen the ones on the side that rubs and push it up just a little. Make sure the back side of the headlight housing is flush all the way across. If that doesn't work look to see if something is bent.

Good luck

Bill

Should I do this with the headlights up or down?

I had all the guts out when I did mine but I think you can reach it from the bottom with the lights down. Lay under it and stick your arm up in the holes and try to feel the bolts. The inner ones weren't too bad but the outer ones will make you cuss. When your arm goes numb you're in the right spot.

That shaft you are trying to adjust has some round stops bolted on it. They keep the whole assembly from moving side to side. While you are in there and already mad make sure they are there.

My wife tells me I said a whole bunch or bad words when I did this.

Yeah, Bill, you sure can learn a whole new vocabulary working on these things!
