Is the headlight limit switch the same as the 'kill switch'? In a 1966, where is it located in relation to each head light and what is the best way to access it?

Thanks.
Dave S.

Those limit switches limit nothing. They activate the tattle tale "lights" lamp that blinks when you turn on the headlights and the buckets are not fully open. Most vendors carry an exact duplixcate for about $10. Access is easiest by removing the motor, one clip and the ground wire lead is all there is. The switch is attached to the inboard bearing cup/support. Now you can install the new switch or connect the wiring.

What is the easiest way to visualize it? I can't seem to locate it as I look down inside the front of the hood area when it its open.

If it is there, each headlamp motor has a black cube shaped switch, about .5x.5x2 with wires hanging off the male spade lugs sticking out of it. There are only two harness connections to the motors. One is the round power plug, the other is the connection to the tell-tale switch.

C2 - with hood open looking down into the space in front of the open hood, use a spare hand mirror and light - the switches are mounted inboard of the motors, about the size of a little box of matches. I have removed-reinstalled these "switches" in this fashion, although it requires upside down patience and reverse-mirror skills. Easier way - access-wise - is to remove front grill (requires removal of bumper and supports) and come at it from that direction. As others have said, ain't nothing more than a tattle tale to advise the "Lights" warning light on the dash when the lights are turned on but the switch has not been hit by the headlights being fully up.

Did you figure things out yet?

most vendor catologes have a good detailed photo of the area.

I always take off my hood when working on the headlamps motors.

Also if you dont have to remove the buckets DONT I have always had a problem readjusting mine to get them to line up correctly.

This may seem "sissy" but when I'm reaching down to the headlight assembly with the hood open, I always put a bolt thru the hole in the hood support/slide assembly to keep it from accidentally closing if a wind came up to blow the hood open a bit, or if I bumped it.

IH2LOSE, I haven't gotten out into the cold garage, as it is awful in the North East. I may try this weekend. Thanks everyone for all your help.

How is the switch mounted. It looks like a bolt with a lock washer underneath. Is a pliers the easiest tool to get in there?

As magicv8 said look for the little brown plastic box, it has a black wire attached to the top and a gray/black wire attached to the bottom. There are two very small hex bolts around 1/8" holding each one to the motor. Be carefull, they will probably strip and break as you loosen them.
