Does someone know a quick fix to a headlight motor that keeps running a few seconds after everytime it is opened and closed. It works fine but the motor keeps running and making a clicking sound. Is there an adjustment that is needed? Thank for the help.

It is almost certainly the bushings inside the gearbox. There are three of them on each side, and they deteriorate over time. You may not have opening/closing problems right now, but as the bushings break down you'll have all kinds of headlight problems.

The fix is relatively simple. The bushings are $5 for a set of three, I always advise people to do both headlights because if you have problems with one headlight, the other one is sure to follow. The bushings are available at MAD and Ecklers, and they come with instructions.

Thank you I will check the book when I get home. I forgot to mention that these are headlights on a 95. I know the older years had many problem. I thought these were better made.

better and worse.... if a pre 1988 lights are broken, you will pay much more than 5 bucks fixing them....

the bad news is these three little bushings can really make your life miserable...

The new bushings are made better though, and shouldn't break again

If you cant find the bushings locally you can buy a ford elect window gear and it will have the same bushings. Just take out the bushings and throw the gear away. Its about 15 bucks doing it this way but you have them right away.

thanks for the info. i bought two sets of bushings from ecklers today. i hope the instructions make sense.

when I bought mine from Ecklers I got no instructions... If yours doesn't come with them, i will try to dig up the instructions that I used, from one of the Corvette magazines

I'll lay odds its your bushings. Go to Home Depot and ask for item number 595609. You will need six of these nylon spacers to repair both headlights. They cost me .69 cents (plus tax) for a pack of three at my local Home Depot store.

Much cheaper than the $7.99 price in MAD, Eckler's and some of the other specialty catalogs and they are the exact same Delrin spacers. Go figure.

If there's a TechTips portal on this Forum search under "headlight bushings." If not, let me know and I'll see if I can get you a copy of the instructions I used when I replaced mine a couple of months ago.
