Hello once again,
In replacing my headlight switch I found the connector has some dis-coloration due to heat. Now I know the front of the connector is ceramic for the dimmer, but WOW does that thing get in HOT in a hurry!!!

I had to replace the switch as I had no instrument lights and found that the dimmer wire was broken in the switch.

Is this thing supposed to get that HOT?? Or is there something wrong??

Thanks again for all the replies; I am going to get this car back on the road again soon. Well unless I run out of money

I run the main power to my headlights thru relays , use the switch to switch them.

Switch Heat

I replaced mine for the same reason. It does get hot enough to burn me I know that. I'm pretty sure it's normal.

It is Normal. If your wire harness connector is too bad to reuse you can get a new one from chevrolet complete with solderless terminals and shrink tube. The new connector and harness are around 12 inches long so any bad wiring can be replaced as well.Matter of fact Gm has most of the connectors commonly used available in this type of kit....just FYI. The headlight switch does absolutely get hot in the dim full/ dome position...the spring is just a variable resistor and like all resistors it gets very hot.
