I posted this over at CF and didn't get much help so I thought I'd repost here. ANY help is appreciated. TIA :beer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I skimmed through the tech tips already, but I'll ask you anyway

I posted a few days ago about my recent problems. Number one right now are the headlights. Neither of them come up, at least not on a regular basis (the passenger side started working again and then quit). The tech tip on the bushings said that the motor would continue to run, mine does not. The headlights both start to move (maybe a half inch) and then stop, along with the motors. The driver's side has done this before, quite a while back, but it started working again and hasn't been an issue again until now. It has been fairly cold this winter, but nowhere near as cold as many of you experience (occasionally down in the 30's over night). Are there any adjustments or lube points or anything like that? Could it still be the bushings or maybe the motors themselves?

Next task: Seat belts... (the driver's side doesn't come out without manually moving the release) But that's a whole nother topic for a later date.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

how about pointing me in the right direction in the helms manual, I've been looking through it and found headlights in the electrical sections, but they work fine, it's the motors I need to find.

This is my last chance before I start looking for a shop to check it out. I don't even know where I'd take it to around here other than a dealer :W

Corvette Central advertises a headllight motor refurbishing service for $109 per side.

Your seatbelt retractor might be jammed or dirty...or it could just be worn out. I don't know of any place where you can get a new belt set for an 87 but you might try a salvage yard. Taking one apart isn't something I'm qualified to talk about but I generally muck things up when I try something like that retractor.:(

I just ran into an outfit in CA that rebuilds and refurbishes seat belts. I will check to see if they will do late models. I saw an example of their work today (exquisite!) but it was an early 70 car.

Save The Wave! :w

Thanks guys. I've seen replacement belts on ebay (black) and I think some of the usual places have replacements as well. I can get the retractor to release when I move the cover and move the release myself, but it automatically locks up again. I'm more worried about the headlights right now. Someone said I could manually roll the lights up and disconnect the electrical inputs from the lights if I really need to drive. I'll eventually have to really fix them though. Thanks again.

I just got an e-mail from partstrain and decided to check out what they have and ran across a set of seat belts for $54.86 listed price was $101.50 If the picture is correct it looks like a single retractor on the shoulder harness. Would that work?

There was a recall on the seat belts ......I took my 88 Vette to the Chevy dealer here in town a couple of years ago and they replaced all of the seat belts and all the hardware to it for FREE....I thought that was pretty good to have done for free at that age.....

Before I bought my '85 I did a search on recalls on the web (can't remember the site) mainly just for a heads up on possible problems. There was a recall on seat belts, and for their free replacement. I think it did have something to do with the ratcheting mechanism as well, and not the material or stitching.

If that recall is still active, what a great idea! Maybe they'll even vacuum under the seats while they're in there:)

That would be great, except I took out the passenger seat and vaccumed really well and still haven't put it back in, then I wouldn't get my money's worth... that is if I had to pay. ;)

I just checked with the chevy dealer and its still a go on the recall.....The recall is for if there ever was a crash, then its possible that the seat belt will not let loose to get you out of the car.
