A friend just asked my to replace his heater core in his 81. Can anyone tell me what kind of a job this will be, I do not want to give him an answer until I know what I'm in for. Thanks for any help. Happy Easter.

Richard,

I've never done the heater core change, I know others that have and they've said it is a real pita... I wouldn't even pretend to try and advice you with degree of dificultly..

Hopefully one of the others here have first hand experience and can relate a few do's and DON'Ts .. Your friend my think very highly of your mechanical skills...

Good luck and hopefully you'll get some better advice than I can provide :eyerole

Thanks rare81, I have done most of the work on my own 81 so far. I have replaced the body mounts, valve stem seals, oil pump, brake calipers, rear main seal, computer, front coil springs, upper & lower ball joints, control arm bushings, tie rod ends, pitman arm and much more. But I have never messed with the heating system.:w I would really hate to mess up someones elses vette.

Richard, sounds like you've done alot of your own work- have you done any work to your transmission (assuming its an automatic)???

:confused

The day after I bought the vette (on my very first ride) the transmission went out. I had the car towed to a tranny place and they rebuilt the tranny and replaced the torque converter. They did a lousy job, I was back there 3 times to get it right, this is when I decided to do my own repairs.

Thats about where I'm at, except my tranny is still pretty much ok, won't downshift into first gear. From the general reputation of tranny shops, I'd rather do it myself-which will start this very afternoon.
I was taking a chance at maybe you could give me some insight on the tranny.
