1982 model,can anyone tell me on the diagrams when they show the control and number it 1 to 5,what color lines correspond with the numbers?

it should show you in the a/c section of the service manual

But the part itself has 5 places to plug vacuum lines on,the part is not marked in any way.

The AC vacuum harness is likely to plug into it in only one way. Check the AIM diagram.

The vacuum switch that I am talking about is black plastic with a place to plug in 5 lines. In the book they are number 1 to 5. The problem is the switch has no numbers or marks on it. I could take a guess and put the colors in order,but I do not know which is number 1 or 5 or anything else. Do you know what I mean now? Thanks,Jim

Yep. I know what you mean. I checked my 80 AIM which is probably similar/same as the 82. Three of the five vacuum hoses are grouped together toward the top of the connector; two of the hoses are towards the bottom. There are two studs on the switch over which the vacuum harness connector fits and is held in place with two push nuts.

With three lines at the top and two at the bottom, plus plugging in over the studs, you probably cannot put it on upsidedown.
