Hedman Hedders adapted to stock exhaust?

Hello all:

Installing Hedman Hedders on the 1985 Corvette: Two issues:

1. Passenger side header is about 1/4 inch away from the heater box, will that cause a dangerous situation?
2. What is the technique of mounting these hedders to my stock exhaust? The stock exhaust is complete from front to back. Will a muffler shop be able to adapt these? What should I expect to pay for this custom fitting?

Its not unusual...Mine has the EGR tube about 1/4" off the heater box. This does need attention, since there is the possibility of contact and breaking the wall of the heater/evap. I would'nt want engine fumes entering the hvac system and entering the cabin, or the possible fire hazard from hot exhaust mixed with plastics.

I used some foil insulation that was "stick-on" on one side, foil on the other. I plated the evap box in that area, and then wrapped the egr tube with some header wrap around the flange where it tried to rub, to help shield everything from the heat.

Probably the most effective thing done.

The best (and only, in my view) answer for all that underhood plastic, especially the connectors, is ceramic coated headers, widely and oft discussed on this forum.

I have to agree with with whalepirate, I have a set of these on my 90, your gonna bump into BIGGER issues with these, such as the oil dipstick on the passenger side, that may have to come out, and thats no walk in the park TRUST me, then the spark plugs, getting out may be easy but getting em back in is difficult, get the coated headers I have these, and i recommend not to drive it till the paint burns off. if u plan not to use the AIR system remove it because then ull have two air outlets that the pump forces the air out of and will create a whistling noise

Are Hooker 2149 headers a better fit than the headman or any other headers? (1989 C4)

1) I'm looking to get a set of headers for my 1989 C4 Corvette. I heard that the Hooker 2149's would fit best, are there any other suggestions?
2) Is it best to stick with the Y pipe, or go truly dual?
3) Are there adapters to get the hooker 2149's attached to the existing stock Y pipe, or will I have to get a different Y Pipe?
4) What would the model number be for the Y pipe, or adapters?
5) Are there any issues with the Hooker 2149 headers coming in contact with any other components that can result in damage?
6) If you suggest a different header, the same questions would apply
concerning the fitment to the existing exhaust.

I only have answers/opinions for 1 & 2

Heddman headers make headers for almost ANY vehicle, as far as suggestions, I dont really know as far as whats better, I only recoomend LONG TUBE headers, then a high flow cat to the Y-pipe and a set of muffler eliminators but thats me:dancenaughty

You can stick with the y-pipe or dual, it'll probably flow better with the dual though(dont really know anybody that has it). I put headers on mine last year and i had to take out the starter, CAREFULLY take out the dipstick(replaced), AIR injection pump/deletion kit for the pully its about a good weeks worth of doin dependin on how many hours u put into it, I bought a new y pipe off tpis.com and welded it to my pipes, sounds great

$120.00 for Y Pipe

I had a local nuffler shop make me a new 3 inch Y pipe from the headers to the Cat $120.00.

I drove down a early Saturday monring I was a LOUD fun drive going down there un-corked.

I lucked out I was give a set of TPIS full lenght heads they fit great no cutting bending they have the smog fitting nothing close to the heater box.

My neighbor has Hookers on his C4 he had to remove the angle brace from the rear of the front cross member to the side frame.
