Whether points-type or HEI ... as you know, they're elliptical or "shaped like a cam" and were matched to another elliptical piece (I dunno name) at top of shaft. Also ... there were many different "profiles" over the years/models. Dunno how you'd assure you acquire correct matched weights? Perhaps there's a guide out there somewhere ... dunno?

Also ... I'm under the impression that a 74 vette came with older points-type distributor having a mechanical tach drive ... and that HEI (large cap with coil mounted in top of cap) first appeared in 75 vette along with electronic tach?

If yours is fitted w/HEI ... GM still supplies new coil-in-cap HEI ... they come on some of the GMPP crate motors ... that HEI distributor is GM P/N 1104067. Perhaps GM lists parts for this distributor as it is still being produced & sold?

BUD & JACK, I have an hei that previous owner put in. there are so many changes made to the car, alot of the not thought out. so, i am trying to de-tune the motor till it idles properly . then go forward from that point.
one of the ideas was in the area of advance weight, since i don't know what the stocks look like. i figured to start from scratch.
