Hello all from a 63 cpe owner.

I would like to hear from some of you on the best way to go about polishing moldings, mirror bases, center console, etc. Is there a website that details how to restore these parts?

Welcome to the Corvette Action Center. I'll let the more experienced members help answer your questions. :)

Welcome to the :CAC I dont know much about fixing cars, so i cant help ya :(

I don´t know is this the best way, but it works. I use produckt called Autosol. I think it made in England? It fine rubbing paste. You can use it with different kind of cloth. Harder the cloth is quiker part starts to shine. Don´t use too hard clothes.

Today I cleaned ´65 model K/O-wheel bright parts with Autosol and it took about two hours for one wheel. So it takes some time, but it sure works. If you deside to use some kind of machine, don´t use too much rpms. Too much rpm in machine may cause rubbing paste burning on the part what you are polishing. Usually max rpm is around 1500rpm/minute.

Generally, when polishing bright parts, it's a good idea to start with the least aggressive compound first with the least abrasive in it, to avoid scratching the part. A good starting point is "Simichrome" polish, which is available at most motorcycle dealers and many of the Corvette restoration parts suppliers. Be particularly careful with bright aluminum parts - they aren't chrome-plated - they're clear-anodized, and many aggressive polishes will ruin them.

I also am in the process of restoreing 1963 roadster, found a guy in nj who restores all accessorys for 1963 vettes. He presently has my console. Drop me an e mail and i will give you the details
