2002 SPEEDWAYWHITE
hello fellow c5 onwers!!!
i came across corvette action center last week and i really enjoy reading all the threads. nice to read about other people who are crazy about vetts like me. my first one was a 94 c4 arctic white.now i have a
2002 c5 speed way white with 6k on it.i think its a awesome car and i always cant wait to drive it.
i do have one small issue with it,and maybe someone can help.when i first start it up i get a clicking noise that then goes away after a minute.the car is not a daily driver and does sit a day or two without driving.hope its nothing serious...:w

Welcome to the :CAC sorbet02!

My first was a '94 Torch Red convertible... kept it 3 years and upgraded to a '98 Lt. Carmine Red convertible. Love those C4s and C5s. Actually I love any of those Cs!

Enjoy!

And don't forget to :w !

thanks for the welcome,..........nice vette

Sorbet02, welcome to the Corvette Action Center. How did you hear about us?

Where is the clicking sound coming from? The engine? Does it sound like valve noise, something like a clatter or ticking? That is something that is often reported on C5's.

i heard about cac when i was @ ebay motors checking out vetts for sale.
sounds like a clicking noise until it warms up..........:hb

Hello from a fellow new yorker i am in rockland county new york about 40 minutes noth of nyc.

I have an 02 at home that has a piston slap noise when it first starts. it not a ticking or tapping noise its more of a low deep slap noise. Had it to the dealer and as always they say its normal. We ar just under 11,000 mile on it

Good luck with it

Hi sorbet02 -

Welcome to CAC.

I used to live in the Buffalo area.

As has been said, there have been some ls1 and ls6 engines that have experienced piston slap noises - I have a friend whose coupe clatters a bit when it is idling. He also had an ls1 Z28 that did the exact same thing (some guys have all the luck...) I don't think it is a big problem, or will cause later problems.

Interestingly, I have and ls1 and an ls6 and neither of them make this noise.

Another source of ticking noises is the fuel-injectors - you can sometines hear them firing off at idle.

best regards -

seems like a commom problem with the ls1 ......... also read that it could be a carbon build up on one of the pistons....and the cure for that is a bottle of techron fuel additive..............i will give it a shot
thanks for the info:beer

Dirty oil is a possiblity. Change the oil and filter and put in a magnetic drain plug and watch for needle bearings when you change oil next time.

Welcome and good luck.:w
