1990 c4 tpi
Hi everyone my names Steve and I'm from Lincoln England.
Just bought a 1990 c4 and I'm loving it. I've got a few issues with the car but I'm hoping to solve them with my knoledge and a little help from fellow vette owners. The car is a 5.7 tpi model with the updated dashboard and is fitted with the z51 handling package ,its a 6spd manual.
The problems I have with it at the moment are it runs awful when it gets hot but I've diagnosed that the injectors are bad as the resistance is very low on them and not uniform too. They range from 14ohms to 6ohms so I need to start there (waiting for a set to arrive from the states). Also the flywheel knocks when warm but I think that's because the injectors are making the engine stall and stumble.

Anyway hello to everyone

Congratulations on your 1990 C4 and welcome to the Corvette Action Center! :w

Very nice car and a 6M Z51 to boot......welcome to the party, lots of help to be had here........Merry Christmas!

Thanks guys. Ill put a post in the tech center soon as I'm waiting to see if I'm right on these injectors. I can't find much info on the specs of the car itself and what the z51 changes are I know of the adjustable suspension cause of the switch in the car but the warning light is in telling me its not working. Did a jumper test on the ECM but it shows no issues. But if anyone knows what features my car had that'd be cool!!

If I'm thinking right there should be a list of codes on the inside of the console lid....then you can get back on line and see what options the codes relate too. I am also trying to figure out what the blue botton is above the light switch....? :thumb

I think the blue button has been added by a previous owner. It lights the clocks up if you press it. Yes a bit random. Car was imported from the states in 1995.

Nice interior Steve! :thumb

As mentioned above, there should be a list of RPO codes somewhere onboard, though I can't say where since I'm not more familiar with your model.

But I should also mention that the Corvette Museum offers reproduction build sheets and reproduction window stickers for a moderate price. That would give you a complete list of RPO codes ordered, a build date and (on my 98 at least), the dealership to which it was first delivered! See this page here for more info: https://store.corvettemuseum.com/services/buildsheet.asp

Good luck!

Welcome to the CAC "kawasakisteve" and Merry Christmas.

Sounds like you're a bit of a DIY so the first thing you need is the Factory Service manual. That will help you troubleshoot your drivability problem which...could be bad injectors but, also, could have some other causes. You can buy "FSMs" from Zip Products here in the States.

Your "flywheel rattle" may or may not be due to the injectors. On 89-93.5, even when everything is working right there's some gear rattle from the trans but, if the rattle noise is coming from the clutch housing rather than the transmission, your dual mass wheel is probably faulty. Dual mass wheels are no longer available so there may be a standard flywheel conversion in your future.

As for your problems with Selective Ride see: Corvette Action Center | Tech Center | C4 Corvette Tech | C4 Corvette's Selective Ride Control - Six Steps for a King's Ride - Page 1 of 3

The blue button is not stock.

Thanks for the info guys. I've managed to find a supplier in the uk for the dual mass flywheel. A supplier called Luk sells a oem replacement for £650 that's about $1000 In your money lol so I may have to look into that. I'm not going to go any further with the running issue until the new injectors arrive as I may be throwing time and money in the wrong places. The egr system has been removed along with the ac pump and air pump and replaced with a tpis pulley kit so I may need a vac line diagram to see if its been rerouted correctly.
Thanks for the link on the suspension ill have a look at that.

I can't wait to get this car running correctly as you just don't see any in the uk. There's a few iroc's running about but there all in pretty poor condition with plenty of tin worm!! Most people seem to be into pickups when it comes to U.S built cars. The dodge ram being the most popular.

Also wondering what the blue btton was ?

I was also wondering what the blue button was ;shrug now I know.

You will get her into shape like it was suppose to be with time.

Luk was the OE supplier of the DM wheel to GM. I am astonished that you've found a new one in the U.K. They are hard to come-by here in the "colonies" and, at 1000USD, that's not an unreasonable price.

I noted the comment about EGR removed. When someone does that, done right, it will include a new ECM calibration with a revised spark timing schedule at part throttle. If you take off the EGR without doing that, the engine often suffers detonation at part throttle.

Well my injectors arrived and I spent the day fitting them carefully and the motor is now 90% sorted. It's air leaking a bit as I have had to use my original gaskets on the plenum and the intake so I can't get the idle below 1500rpm but she is smooth and not loping.

I've located a gasket set in the uk for about $100 so I'm going to order that.

Appears you're on top of it my man and got it on the run. Keep us posted on your progress. With winter set in here and not driving mine it helps me to at least talk about Vettes until mine comes back out of storeage :happyanim:But then again I always appreciate sharing of information with others that is how we all learn, right:duh

After a 200 mile drive I've noticed that the ses light is lighting up on the dic now and again. Will it store a fault code even tho the light is off now
